How to get the modern pompadour;
and a cool, slicked-back style
Aveda Artists created chic and ultra-cool men’s hair styles backstage at the recent New York Fashion Week, Men’s. Here we share those looks with you and the steps to creating these styles.
TURN UP THE VOLUME
Allen Ruiz, Aveda Global Artistic Director, Hair Styling, created a full, sleek hair style for the Public School Autumn/Winter 2016 collection.
“We wanted each model to have a cool look, no matter their length of hair,” Ruiz said. “The hair was a defined style, full of volume and attitude. The fullness was effortlessly slicked back with pieces artfully falling loose.”
Below are the steps for achieving the off-the-face voluminous look:
Step 1: Saturate wet hair with Aveda Men Pure-Formance™ Firm Hold Gel before blow-drying.
Step 2: Blow-dry hair back, away from face to create voluminous natural texture. Focus on creating a poofed shape starting at the roots.
Step 3: Begin to tone down the fullness by emulsifying a coin-size dollop of Aveda Men Pure-Formance™ Pomade in hands.
Step 4: Pull hands through the hair, starting from the forehead going toward the back to create definition and the desired final look.
THE MODERN POMPADOUR
“Imagine that cool 1950’s rock n’ roller who just finished an intense set, and his once perfect pompadour is now mussed up, but still smooth and cool; that is this look,” Aveda Guest Artist Jon Reyman said of the style he created for the Loris Diran Autumn/Winter 2016 collection.
“This modern pompadour keeps the action in the front with the sides wet and slicked back. It can be created on both short and long hair.”
Here, Jon shares the 4 steps to creating the modern pompadour:
Step 1: Saturate dry hair with Aveda Men Pure-Formance™ Liquid Pomade before blow-drying to create ease of movement and natural texture. Blow-dry hair using a round brush moving the heat up and over the brush to help create the shape.
Step 2: Emulsify a coin-size dollop of Aveda Men Pure-Formance™ Firm Hold Gel and gently massage into hair.
Step 3: Part hair down center and divide into four sections. Section by section roll the hair up over the thumb toward the center part to create the shape and pin in place.
Step 4: With all sections rolled and secured, set the final look with Aveda Men Pure-Formance™ Pomade.
