How to Create the Perfect

To create the perfect pout we’ve enlisted the help of Janell Geason, Aveda Global Artistic Director for Makeup who’s all about bold and beautiful lips to honor the season. Janell offers tips and tricks below for crafting a cute smooch that could even help you win the lip colors from our limited-edition Spring 2015 Makeup Collection Rare Bloom.

Encompassing gorgeous shades of pinks and orange, Rare Bloom’s color palette eloquently screams spring. “I love the new Magenta Berry Smoothing Lip Color from Rare Bloom,” Janell says. “It’s a sophisticated deep pink, but still has enough pizzazz to keep lips playful, and the brightness of the color really accentuates lip’s shape for a full Aveda Kiss effect.”

Here, Janell shares how to achieve full and flirty #AvedaKiss lips:

Step 1 

Prepare: Begin by prepping the lip with Aveda Nourish-Mint Renewing Lip Treatment.

Pro Tip: To help prevent feathering from fine lines around mouth, apply a small amount of powder around mouth before applying lip liner.

Step 2 

Lip Liner: apply Lip Liner by following the natural contour of lips. First begin on the inside of the outer corner of top lip, working toward the center of the lip; repeat on the other side of the mouth. Create the ‘m’ at the center of the top lip.

Begin the bottom lip at the inside of the outer corner, working toward the center of the lip; repeat on the other side of the mouth. Finish by filling in the entire mouth.

Pro Tip: Clean up edges with a pointy cotton swab or a dab of concealer on a small brush.

Step 3 

Lip Color: for greater control when shaping lips, use Aveda Environmental Retractable Lip Brush for applying lip color. Like the liner application, follow the natural contour of the lips. Start in the center of the lips and blend towards the lip lines. Fill in the entire mouth.

Pro Tips: For added longevity, blot with tissue and reapply. For added fullness apply a dab of lip gloss in the center of the lips.

Step 4 

Once lips are set, and before kissing it away, take a selfie and share on social media using the #AvedaKiss hashtag.
