While this past summer brought us ‘bronde’ hair color —that sun-kissed collision of blonde and brunette— autumn hair color gets darker and more hypnotizing with tortoiseshell, a swirling richness of caramel and honey highlights.

Seen here on Oxana, from our Autumn 2015 Collection Sublime Spirit, tortoiseshell hair perfectly conveys moments of light intertwined with a lush darkness that invites one into a new season of change.

“As we come into this time when the days are shorter, hair color reflects the need to be more ‘of the season,’” says Ian Michael Black, Aveda Global Artistic Director for Hair Color noting that this is the perfect hue for the fall to winter transition.

“The color is also quite complimentary. By keeping tones on the warmer side, this will infuse the hair with some winter warmth, which in turn keeps the skin and face looking fresh throughout the colder months.”
 
For perfecting tortoiseshell hair, Ian recommends a fusion of pieces that are both lighter and darker than the base shade and these pieces should be evenly woven throughout the hair.
